If you’re a new mom, you may have come across materials outlining something called the mommy makeover, it’s a bundle of procedures and non-surgical treatments aimed at helping you bounce back to your original, youthful appearance, which can be hard after having children. Patients who come into our office in Chicago frequently ask for the mommy makeover and aren’t always sure what it entails!
In this post, we’re going to break down what the mommy makeover includes and why it has been spreading in popularity in Chicago and all over the country and world for mommies everywhere.
Who is a good candidate for mommy makeover?
If you have had children and were affected by childbearing, you could be a good candidate for a mommy makeover in Chicago. Some women are lucky enough to have children without experiencing major changes to their body afterwards, but it’s not usually the case. Even if the changes are subtle, a mommy makeover refers to any set of cosmetic procedures used to correct the effects of childbearing as well as breast feeding. The goal is always to get the “pre-baby body” back.
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to the mommy makeover, it is a blanket term describing a combination of treatments that your doctor will choose with you in order to see the results you seek. Each mommy makeover treatment is customized to fit the needs of the patient.
Which areas are most commonly treated?
Childbearing affects the breast and the belly more than any other parts and those are the areas we treat most often, though there are sometimes others.
Abdominoplasty is commonly used to help the belly “bounce back” into your pre-baby shape. The cosmetic procedure removes extra skin, stretched skin, and fat from the abdominal area. The abdominal wall muscles are tightened. If your skin was critically stretched out in pregnancy, there may be removal of some excess skin. This can be the case when carrying twins or triplets.
Breast augmentation is another common procedure done as part of the mommy makeover. Breast augmentation can include, reduction, reshaping, and sometimes implants when desired. They aim to restore youthful shape and volume to the beasts. If your breasts increased in size during pregnancy, then can sometimes sag. In this case, a breast lift can also be recommended.
When is the best time to get a mommy makeover?
You should be totally done having children before you pursue a mommy makeover. Otherwise, you run the risk of the same issues arising when you carry and bear another child. Keep in mind you may need to rest for a couple of weeks after the procedure to heal correctly. Someone will need to be tending to the kids while you are off your feet for the recovery period!
There is no specific time of year that is better or worse technically, but we see mommies often opt for the makeover as winter is coming so that they can heal in the colder months and be ready in summer to flaunt their pre-baby body.
