Hair loss treatments available to patients get better and better as time goes on. Formulas are enhanced and manufacturing capabilities continue to surge ahead to increase availability of things like PRP hair restoration. They also aim at enhancing the results of things that currently exist to help treat hair loss. One of the new innovations entering the fold is known as exosomes for hair loss.
In this quick guide, we will break down exosomes for hair loss, what they are, how they work, and how they might be able to help you thicken your hair in the near future.
Rather cut to the chase? As always, you can give us a call at the institute today. Chicago Cosmetic Institute is open and servicing our Chicagoans!
What are exosomes?
Exosomes are tiny micro-vesicles. They’re about 1/1000th the size of a typical cell in the body. They’re used by the boddy for intercellular communications of different times, helping the cells work together more efficiently.
They are stem cell derived, so they bring a wide variety of growth factors into the body. These factors can help stimulate the regenerative potential of the body not just for hair thickening but for a variety of other applications.
When injected into the scalp, the results are thicker and healthier hair. PRP and stem cells have been used for the same purpose for quite some time. Exosomes are a newer alternative to these treatments that many researchers believe to be just as effective or more effective than PRP and stem cells for hair loss.
Exosomes contain some 200+ growth and re-growth factors. They’re known to promote healing, help regenerate normal tissue, and many other purposes, including thickening hair.
What can I expect from exosome treatment?
The scalp will be numbed using local anesthesic, so you wont feel anything during the process of injecting the exosomes into the scalp. After treatment, you will feel a dull numbness in the scalp sometimes for several hours after.
We recommend tha tpatients avoid heavy exercise for 24-48 hours after the treatment is done just to be safe. You can resume your normal regimen of hair washing and styling products the next day.
How many treatments of exosomes are needed?
Exosome treatment for hair loss is done as a one-time standalone treatment. Your initial results can become fully apperent in 3-6 months time and then, from there, we can assess when would be a good time for you to come in and re-fresh the treatment if needed.
How long the results lasts is dependant on your genetics. Patients who have stronger hair loss genetics require visits more frequently. It all depends on your body and we judge this on a case-by-case basis.
The duration of the benefit is thought to be longer than PRP and/or stem cells, but this is a new treatment and much is still to be learned about it as patients continue to be treated.
If you have more questions about this treatment, whether we are currently offering it, or whether you are a good fit, please get in touch with us today! We’re happy to discuss.
