Botox vs Dysport – Which is right for you?

Fine lines and wrinkles are part of the territory when it comes to aging. It happens to everyone sooner or later and there’s nothing to be ashamed of. There are two popular dermal injections used to treat and prevent wrinkles – Botox and Dysport. Both of these use the bolutinium toxin injected under the skin to relax the muscles, releasing wrinkles above. We treat every patient case by case and when you talk to a doctor the best choice will be determined.

In this quick post, we are going to discuss the difference between Botox and Dysport as wrinkle solutions, when one might be preferred over the other, and more. If you are looking to see which is best for you, call us today.

Similarities

Both Botox and Dysport, as mentioned earlier, incorporate the use of the bolutinium toxin to treat wrinkles and lines in the skin. They are both non-invasive injections that require no down time or recovery, allowing patients to get right back to their day after having their treatment completed.

Botox as well as Dysport reduces wrinkles by relaxing the underlying muscles of the skin, bringing a smoother appearance to the skin.

Differences

While both of these injections are similar in their ingredients and how they work, some important things do vary, like the amount of proteins in the formula. Sometimes, one can be more effective for a person than the other and is chosen for that reason. How long they take to see results can also vary, as can the amount of time the effects last. Dysport generally will show results faster, while Botox will show results sometimes up to a third of the time longer, but neither is permanent and follow-up visits will be needed to maintain the effects.

Patients looking to target light to moderate forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet, frown lines, and lines between the eyebrows will first come across Botox. Dysport is often meant for moderate to severe cases of wrinkles and is most often used to treat lines between the eyebrows.

Dysport will show faster results, appearing in a couple of days and then wearing off after 3-4 months. Botox can take longer to appear (up to a week) but can last up to 6 months.
